At 2:00 a.m. on November 11, Jang Keun Suk posted a comment on his Twitter page: “We’ve spend full five months to shoot the film, but its pirated copies are circulating in the market. I feel very disappointed at such a situation as this. Do you know the phone number for a cyber investigation unit?”
He exploded in anger when he knew that the pirated files that feature scenes and theme song are illegally circulating on the Internet. It is unprecedented that a pirated copy of a Korean film is posted on a film-download site on the same day of its release.
Tree J Company, Jang’s agency, said on November 11 via its official Twitter page, “We hope people enjoy the film in theaters. It is very disappointing to circulate pirated copies. We strongly insist that the pirated copy posted on a file-download site be removed right away. If there’re some who downloaded the file, please keep it only to yourself. It is a infringement of copyright.”
The film’s production said, “As far as we know, the file was deleted from the concerned file-download site. We’ll take aggressive measures to prevent the file from being circulated on the Internet.”
You Are Pet, based on a Japanese cartoon of the same title, features a romantic story of an ordinary woman who happens to stay together with a younger good-looking guy as a sort of “pet human.” It ranked third on the box office ranking, attracting 43,902 movie goers to theaters as of November 10.
